Summersville Lake Area: Summersville, West Virginia is a small town community that draws tourists from all over to visit our amazing Summersville Lake. The lake is the largest in West Virginia and is sometimes called the "Little Bahamas of the East" because the water is so clean and clear. You will find great swimming and boating spots, a nice beach area, fishing, rock climbing, and hiking trails all located minutes from the Hootenanny event grounds.
Parks and Recreation: West Virginia is an outdoor paradise like no other and our little slice of "Almost Heaven" features the newest US National Park: the New River Gorge National Park along with 4 other incredible state parks all with 30 minutes of the Hootenanny. You can ride over and underneath one of the tallest bridges in the world, take a jet boat cruise, visit a working grist mill, fish for golden trout, mountain bike through the forest...want me to keep going? White water rafting has always been a big feature here with our wonderful Gauley and New Rivers to choose from with plenty of excellent guide services. Our staff can help point you in the right direction for all of this and more.
Riding or Driving Fun: We challenge you to find better twisty and turnies mixed with beautiful scenery anywhere in the country! Of course if you signed up for the Backpack Ride you will experience the 1300 curves of the W.V Hellbender motorsports route - an amazing experience made even more fun with our guided ride. Want more? - the Lighthouse Run and the Talon are right out our front door along with tons of great destination rides. We have a giant route map mounted in front of the Lighthouse gift shop and smaller ones you can take with you.
Food: We know you are going to want to hang out at the Hootenanny and enjoy the numerous food trucks on site but if you want to head out for a bit we have lots of great spots all around the area. We always suggest hitting the local spots - Fat Eddies, Longpoint Grille, Secret Sandwich Society, Pies & Pints, Maloneys Pub, The Local 805, and El Bandido are some of our favorites with 15 minutes of us. Stop in at the Lighthouse gift shop for recommendations on where to go and what specials are happening the night you are dining out.
Kids and Pets: Bring 'em! The Hootenanny itself is child and pet friendly - heck most of us our just big kids ourselves. The campground is also extremely friendly for your kids and dogs. There is a pirate ship playground on site, cornhole area, horseshoes, hammock hangout, a lighthouse to climb, and plenty of space to run and roads to bicycle. For your furry friends we have the largest dog park in West Virginia with seperate areas for the bigs and littles. All the cabins and camp spots are pet friendly and some feature fenced areas for your doggies. Off site, there are numerous excursions including pedal bikes along the train tracks, paddleboards at the lake, exploring WV's mining history touring a coal mine, or just getting some Ice Cream - all within a short drive.
